OREANDA-NEWS. SAP SE today announced that it won two awards at the annual Asian Banker Technology Innovation awards program. SAP won the award for the “Best Mobile Banking Project” in Indonesia for its work with BTPN Bank and the “Best Mobile Payment Project” award in Indonesia for its work with Bank Central Asia.

SAP helped BTPN Bank implement a new USSD-based branchless mobile banking service called BTPN WOW, which targets financial inclusion and focuses on the market’s lower-income segments as well as on micro, small and midsize enterprises. BTPN WOW can facilitate account openings, withdrawals, transfers, payments and deposits through a bank agent at a very low cost. The project received notable traction in the market, achieving an active rate of 35 percent for customer and 40 percent for agents. The mobile banking service helped the bank acquire 300,000 new clients and 24,000 new banking agents.

SAP also worked with Bank Central Asia to implement a new mobile banking service named SAKUKU that targets Indonesia’s younger generations. The service allows users to instantly request and send vouchers to their phone so they can be used for retail and online shopping. The service aims to provide user-friendly payments with notable features such as giving customers the ability to use just their phone number to create an account, making it easy to register through the bank’s digital channels. The mobile application was downloaded more than 40,000 times in its first three months.

“In a region with the fastest growing market for mobile and social media, it is critical that all banks have digital banking strategies that are compatible with the needs and demands of different target audiences,” said Falk Rieker, global head of the banking business unit at SAP. “We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with BTPN Bank and Bank Central Asia to make mobility a key part of their customer acquisition and growth strategies. And we expect to see many more of these mobile-first projects get under way in the months and years to come.”

Asian Banker runs several country-specific technology innovation awards that recognize leadership in innovation and identify emerging best practices that can become benchmarks for future decision makers in the areas of vendor selections and implementation road maps. SAP received the two awards in Indonesia during the 10th Asian Banker Technology Innovation awards program held at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan, Indonesia, July 27, 2016.
