OREANDA-NEWS. The Australian government intends to abandon advertising campaigns on the social network Facebook. This was announced by the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment of the country, Simon Birmingham.

On ABC Radio, he explained the move as «groundless blocking of websites». According to the politician, the administration of the social network is trying to demonstrate it's power and influence democracy. «We are not going to tolerate this and we will adhere to our laws», Minister said.

Earlier, the popular social network reported on the restriction of news publications in the online space of the Australia, arguing that the introduction of a new media codex. It is expected, that it will soon be implemented in order to protect local media companies. In response, the Australian authorities intend to oblige technology corporations to discuss payments for content with local publishers and broadcasters.

Restrictions were imposed on a number of pages of Australian government agencies: medical departments, weather service and the fire service in the region where there is currently a high threat of wildfires.
