OREANDA-NEWS. The United States and Great Britain are discussing the possible introduction of additional sanctions against Russia "for violating the ban on the use of chemical weapons." Bloomberg writes about this opportunity, citing its own sources.

It is reported that as an "extreme step" the President of the United States Joe Biden may consider imposing restrictions on the Russian national debt.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the American president will agree to this only if Russia "again violates the ban on the use of chemical weapons." According to the agency, the United States can do it together with Europe.

It is also reported about another restrictive measure against Russia, which may be the prospect of imposing sanctions against "Russian oligarchs." To do this, the United States can use the "Magnitsky Act", which allows to impose restrictions on persons who, in the opinion of the American authorities, are involved in human rights violations or corruption.

As the media reported earlier, the European Union on Tuesday for the first time imposed sanctions under the new global regime for human rights violations against four Russian citizens for the arrest of Alexei Navalny. The United States, following the EU, announced the introduction of sanctions against Russia. 14 organizations were subjected to sanctions, which were presented with the wording "for the production of biological and chemical weapons." In addition, US sanctions will target specific individuals and organizations, and will include export and visa restrictions.
