OREANDA-NEWS. A Polish citizen was detained in Warsaw. He is charged with spying for Russia. This is reported by the General Prosecutor's Office of the republic.

The incident took place on May 31st. The operation was performed by officers of the Internal Security Agency by order of the prosecutor of the Mazovian Interdistrict Department for Organized Crime and Corruption.

The Prosecutor General's Office explained that the detainee's name is Yanush N. According to the official agency RAR, he is a former journalist of a large publication Wprost. Now he is in custody, he faces up to ten years in prison.

As the prosecutor's office informes, the detainee "conducted activities in favor of Russia, which he intensified after his colleague was previously detained on suspicion of espionage."

The message reads: "Janusz N., on behalf of persons acting in the interests of Russian intelligence, tried to establish contact with Polish and foreign politicians, including those working in the European Parliament. The suspect conducted his activities in Poland, the European Union and other countries with the aim of weakening Poland's position in the EU and in the international arena ".

Over 300 thousand zlotys (more than 80 thousand dollars) and a large number of electronic media were found in his house. All this was seized. The prosecutor's office said that on behalf of the Russian intelligence, Janusz tried to establish contact with Polish and foreign politicians, including those working in the European Parliament.
