OREANDA-NEWS. Oleg Suprunyuk, an opposition journalist and news editor of the «First Region» website, was detained in Brest in the west of Belarus. The journalist was taken from his home on July 6 at about 22.20 local time, the «First Region» reported, citing the detainee's wife.

The reason for Suprunyuk's detention is still unknown. The journalist's wife managed to find out only that her husband was taken to the Leninsky District Police Department of Brest. The district police officer refused to specify the reason for the detention, saying that he has no right to speak on this topic.

Oleg Suprunyuk is a member of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), for some time he headed it's Brest branch. Before moving to the «First Region», he worked in the newspaper «Brest Courier» and other media.

Earlier it was reported that another Belarusian journalist, Grigory Azarenok, was tried to kidnap in order to cut off his tongue. This was announced by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during a speech in honor of Independence Day, «BelTA» reports. According to the head of state, the performers received $10 thousand for this operation.
