OREANDA-NEWSThe Government of Canada believes that Russia is responsible for the cyber attacks committed on Georgian government websites in October 2019. This is stated in a statement released on Thursday by the Canadian Foreign Ministry.

It reports that Ottawa joins its allies, which earlier Thursday also accused Moscow of allegedly perfect series of large-scale and destructive cyber attacks against Georgia. "Canada strongly condemns this malicious activity. These actions are aimed at sowing discord in Georgia on the eve of the parliamentary elections to be held later this year, and also demonstrate a blatant disregard for international law", the Canadian Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already stated that accusations against Russia of cyber attacks on Georgian Internet resources are a stuffing, the unprovenness and political motivation of which is obvious.

Earlier Thursday, Georgian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vladimir Konstantinidi said at a briefing that the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces allegedly stood behind a large-scale cyber attack on government and commercial sites in Georgia in October 2019. According to him, this is indicated by the results of an investigation conducted by the Georgian side, as well as information received by Tbilisi from international partners.
