OREANDA-NEWS. The Board of Directors of Rambler Group instructed the holding’s management to appeal to law enforcement agencies to terminate the criminal case against the web server Nginx.

Kommersant newspaper reports that the decision was made unanimously at the meeting on December 16. The Board of Directors proposed to continue the proceedings, “if it is necessary to ensure the protection of the interests of the company, within the civil law field.”

The meeting also decided to break off relations with Lynwood Investments CY Ltd, which represented the interests of the holding in a dispute with Nginx. “To instruct the management of Rambler to ensure the termination of the contract with Lynwood and offer it to contact the law enforcement authorities with a request to withdraw its application,” Rambler stated.

On December 12, Rambler Group claimed that it owns exclusive rights to the Nginx software developed by its former employee Igor Sysoyev. On the same day, searches were conducted at Moscow office of Nginx, policemen confiscated documents and equipment. Then it became known about the initiation of a criminal case on violation of rights (part 3 of article 146 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) against Nginx. The case was initiated at the appeal of Lynwood Investments CY Ltd, representing the interests of Rambler Group.

Large Internet companies Yandex, Mail.ru Group, VKontakte, Ozon, 2Gis, as well as industry associations supported Nginx and its founders and warned about the risks for the programmer community.
