OREANDA-NEWS. In the fight against hate propaganda on the Internet, German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann called on Europe to take joint action against the popular Telegram messenger. «This will put more pressure on Telegram operators than if each country acts alone», he said in an interview with the Funke group published on Tuesday, December 21.

The Minister recalled that it was thanks to such joint actions that the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) was removed from Telegram channels. Telegram wants to earn money through advertising, so it is interested in maintaining access to the lucrative European market, Buschmann explained.

At the same time, Marco Buschmann urged not to give in to the illusion that all hate propaganda will disappear, it is only necessary to get Telegram to comply with all the rules. «Radicals will look for other ways and platforms», he said, stressing that it is much more important to find out the ways and causes of radicalization of people online.

«Too little is known about this. My department has commissioned a number of studies on this subject. This topic is much bigger than Telegram», Buschmann said.
