OREANDA-NEWS. Italian writer and journalist Rino Cammilleri said the United States is trying to create a deep chasm between the European Union and Russia. Thanks to this, Europe, which is “stuffed” with American military bases, will soon begin to buy shale gas from the United States, he noted in an article published by Nicola Porro.

The United States cannot offer energy at a competitive price, but they have a big club in their hands, the author of the publication believes.

Cammilleri is sure that this is precisely the purpose for which the United States needs a gap between Russia and Europe.

It is no coincidence that Washington began to sound the alarm about the imminent conflict in Ukraine two months after the completion of the construction of the new Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

The author of the publication recalled that calls for Europe to abandon Russian gas and agree to supplies from the United States back in 2014 were made by former American President Barack Obama. In the same year, due to US pressure on Bulgaria, the construction of another important gas pipeline, the South Stream, was halted.

Economic synergy between Russia and Europe would create a continental bloc that the maritime powers [i.e., the UK and the US] fear like the plague,” Cammilleri concluded.
