OREANDA-NEWS. Haitian President Jovenel Moise, who died as a result of the attack, was hit by 12 bullets, according to the local portal Juno7, citing the first findings of the deputy magistrate.

The Haitian President was fatally wounded in the attack on his residence last night. His wife Martin Moise is in critical condition.

According to the newspaper, the president's body was found in a "deplorable state": bullets hit the left ear, forehead, stomach, right arm, left leg, the left leg was broken, and the left eye was missing. At the same time, none of the head of state's personal security personnel was injured.

The house was in complete disarray, with bullet holes visible in the conference room, dining room and bedroom.

Moise took over as President of Haiti on February 7, 2017. According to the constitution, if the president becomes unable to fulfill his duties after the fourth year of rule, the parliament elects the interim head of state. In this case, he must meet no later than 60 days after the president has ceased to fulfill his duties. The interim president holds office until the end of the remaining term of his five-year mandate. Until the election of an interim president, the country is governed by a council of ministers headed by the prime minister.

After the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, four mercenaries were liquidated, two more were detained, said the head of the country's police Leon Charles, RIA Novosti reports citing local media.

Haiti's Minister of Communications Franz Exanthus previously announced the arrest of the alleged criminals.
