OREANDA-NEWS. British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss flew to Moscow to once again play a popular melody from a European hurdy-gurdy - “Russia is aggressive and will attack soon,” Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said on Thursday, January 10.

This is how he commented on the words of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the conversation between “the dumb and the deaf” after a meeting with Truss in the Russian capital earlier that day. According to him, relations between the Russian Federation and Britain leave much to be desired, this is not the fault of Moscow.

The parliamentarian noted that the UK perceives reality through the prism of conviction in alleged Russian aggression and “imminent invasion”, interprets the Minsk agreements in its own way and calls white black. That is why it is very difficult for Russia to reach out to its British counterparts.

“For the sake of what did Mrs. Truss then fly to Russia and spend British taxpayer money? It was possible to send a letter, an audio recording, make a call in the end, ”the deputy said with a question in an interview with Izvestia.

From such official visits, as the politician stressed, they are expected to have a constructive dialogue, concrete decisions and coordinate positions, and not a conversation “mute with deaf”.

The head of the British department, in turn, expressed the hope that the upcoming talks would help strengthen European security. She stressed that she arrived in Moscow to urge Russia to follow a diplomatic path around the situation in Ukraine.

Belik, commenting on Lavrov's words about Russia's readiness to reciprocate, said that the country is interested in improving relations with all the so-called Western partners, including the UK, which is rather aggressive towards Moscow.

“We are ready for dialogue, we are ready to discuss security guarantees, first of all, for our country, we are ready to negotiate. And we show it, and we talk about it, despite these hysterics that the Anglo-Saxon world constantly instill in the whole world - that Russia, they say, wants to invade the territory of the sovereign Ukrainian state and so on, ”he told the Duma TV.
