OREANDA-NEWS. The Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux announced that the show will not move online if the coronavirus epidemic continues in May.

Since the beginning of March, a holding of the Cannes Festival has come into question due to the global pandemic. By the middle of the month, the organizers decided to postpone the event, initially scheduled from May 12 to May 23, to a later date, perhaps the end of June or the beginning of July. Exact dates have not yet been determined.

Fremaux explained that the oldest European festival should be held in a live format, since “its soul, its history, its efficiency” are connected with this. “These films (Announced for the festival. – Ed.) have been postponed to be shown on a big screen; why would we want to show them before, on a digital device?” he concluded.
