OREANDA-NEWS. The famous Hollywood actress and mother of six, Angelina Jolie, has long fought for women's rights around the world and supported the UN's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Program.

At an international conference in Seoul, she gave a speech in which she warned women about the spike in sexual violence during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The actress recalled that, according to statistics, the New Year holidays can be difficult for women who live with rapists.

Angelina Jolie advised them not to be silent, to find people with whom you can quickly contact in case of an emergency. She advised her relatives and friends to agree on a code word, saying which they will immediately understand that you are in trouble. The actress reminded women to be careful. Because only women can know what the person with whom they are forced to live is capable of.

But at the same time, Jolie said that, according to statistics, often women who are in a difficult situation are helped not by their relatives, but by strangers who have previously experienced a similar story.

According to the UN, around 200 million women worldwide experience sexual violence. And only 40% of this number tell someone about what happened to them.
