OREANDA-NEWS. Christopher Tolkien, the son of English writer John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, passed away at the age of 95.

This was stated by the Tolkien Society. “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that Tolkien’s son and literary executor Christopher Tolkien has died aged 95,” the statement of the Society says.

Christopher Tolkien was born in Leeds in 1924. He studied at Oxford, and served in South Africa during the Second World War. After the war, he finished his studies and became a lecturer in English at Oxford University.

The son of the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings was actively engaged in work on the heritage of his father. In particular, Christopher Tolkien edited and published his works, including The Silmarillion and The Fall of Gondolin. In 2017, Tolkien’s book Beren and Luthien was published for the first time; it was also edited by the son of the writer.
