OREANDA-NEWS. The picture transferred to the Irbit State Museum of Fine Arts, which was considered a copy of the canvas of the Flemish painter of the 16th-17th centuries by Peter Paul Rubens, "The Position in the Coffin", according to preliminary data, turned out to be a true original.

“The suspicion that the sketch of the Position in the Coffin” is a genuine work by Rubens came to us during the restoration of the painting in 2016–2017.  A few days ago we received a verbal confirmation of the authenticity of the work from the Hermitage experts, ”said the museum director Valery Karpov.

Karpov says that this work of early Rubens, written in 1601, when the artist was very young and worked in Italy, is a preliminary sketch of a large painting.
