However, most often Russians breed cats without a breed (55 percent). Among thoroughbred pets, the most popular are Britons (11 percent), Scots (8 percent), Maine Coons (3 percent) and Siberian cats (3 percent).

It is noted that most often cats are born by residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg.

In addition, the researchers found that Russians usually choose Marusya, Alice, Musya, Sonya and Masya as nicknames for their cats. Males are most often called Barsik, Kuzya, Vasya, Sema and Ryzhik.
