OREANDA-NEWS. According to Deputy Minister of Culture Maxim Ksenzov, the Russian film industry could lose almost 23 billion rubles due to the situation related to the spread of coronavirus infection.

According to him, this year there was a force majeure, and the industry may suffer almost 23 billion rubles in losses. This is approximately 50 percent of the annual turnover. He adds that it is important in this situation not to lose the achieved achievements.

According to the presentation presented by the Deputy Minister, these indicators represent a significant risk for the film industry and a return to 2010 indicators.

It is also noted that in the aftermath of COVID-19, the Russian film industry will face a lack of resources for new production, a significant decrease in revenues from key distribution channels. So, in just five years, the possible losses of the industry due to the coronavirus could amount to 32 billion rubles.

According to him, the share of Russian cinema in our market at the moment is more than 20 percent, which is an important indicator that should not be missed.

As Maxim Ksenzov said, production has doubled over the past ten years, a transparent control mechanism has been created in the film industry. He added that the statistics system allowed this year, first of all, to substantiate and prove the need for state support.
