OREANDA-NEWS. The 93rd ceremony of granting Oscar awards by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences may not take place on February 28, 2021, as it is planned. This was reported by sources of the edition Variety.

“It’s likely they’ll be postponed,” one of the journalists’ interlocutors familiar with the situation said. He added that new dates have not yet been determined.

At the same time, other sources, on condition of anonymity, note that the Academy does not have concrete plans for transferring the ceremony.

In April, Academy head David Rubin said it was too early to assess the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the Oscars in 2021 and that the issue would be considered when the pandemic will end.

In the history of Oscar, there have been cases when the organizers had to transfer a date of a ceremony. In 1968, it was connected with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., in 2001 – with the attacks of September 11, in 2003 – with the war in Iraq.
