OREANDA-NEWS. The film of the Russian director Andrey Konchalovsky «Dear Comrades!» (2020) is in the short list of contenders for the Academy Award in the category «Best Foreign Feature Film». This is stated in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 9, by the press service of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The black-and-white drama tells about the shooting of a peaceful demonstration in Novocherkassk in 1962. The film has already won a prize at the Venice Film Festival and an award from the US National Board of Film Critics.

The short list of contenders for the «Oscar» in the category «Best Documentary feature» includes the film «Gunda» (2020) by Viktor Kosakovsky. «Gunda» is a black-and-white documentary film with no people in the frame and no human speech. These are observations of the life of the pig Gunda and her piglets, as well as cows and chickens. The executive producer of the project was Joaquin Phoenix, known not only as an actor, but also as an animal rights activist. The Oscar shortlists in each category included 15 films. The film awards were postponed from February 28 to April 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The award nominees will be announced on March 15.
