Gaurav Sant to receive innovation award from American Concrete Institute
Sant is being recognized for his research on how materials influence cement hydration rates and on the development of carbon dioxide-neutral cement – work to reduce the 5 percent of the planet’s greenhouse gas emissions that result from concrete production. Sant has been working with a team of interdisciplinary researchers at UCLA to create a new building material, CO2NCRETE, which doesn’t release carbon dioxide and actually uses carbon released by power plant smokestacks.
