UCLA ranks high in Times Higher Education’s top universities in the world

OREANDA-NEWS. September 22, 2016. UCLA has improved its standing in this year’s Times Higher Education World University Rankings. In its 2016–2017 report, published today, the Times ranked UCLA No. 14 worldwide and No. 10 in the United States. This is up from last year’s showing of No. 16 overall and No. 11 nationally. The publication ranked 980 of the world’s leading research universities, drawing on 150 separate data points.

The survey takes into account a variety of indicators, including quality of teaching and research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Among U.S. public universities, UCLA followed only UC Berkeley, which tied for No. 10 overall.

Regardless of methodology, UCLA consistently performs well in myriad national and international rankings. Earlier this month, UCLA placed No. 2 among the country’s national public universities and No. 24 overall in the 2017 U.S. News and World Report “Best Colleges” rankings. In August, UCLA was ranked No. 8 overall in the annual Washington Monthly rankings and 12th among all universities globally in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. In May, London’s Times Higher Education’s World Reputation Rankings 2016, which assess the international prestige of institutions of higher learning, placed UCLA No. 2 among all U.S. public universities. In addition, U.S. News and World Report rankings had UCLA at No. 8 on its 2016 Best Global Universities list.
