OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2016. After a successful first year, the Wellness Project is seeking applications for its 2016-2017 Student Wellness Grants cycle.

The grants give funds of up to \\$1,000 to students who organize programs and events that address one of the six areas of wellness: emotional, physical, social, intellectual, professional, or spiritual. Last year’s grants received more than 50 applications, of which 10 were accepted. The winning programs included DeStress Fest on the Hill, Mind Matters with Kay Redfield Jamison, the Feminist Adventure Club, and Bonsai Tree Workshops.

These grants are part of the Wellness Project (WP), a larger effort to prioritize the mental and physical wellness of the student body and to foster an environment where this wellness is valued. The WP launched last year under the guidance of Kimberly Goff-Crews, secretary and vice president for student life, and includes students and student health professionals from across the university.

“The hope is that these student-driven projects will create a meaningful shift in campus culture such that wellness — sleeping a reasonable number of hours, taking the time to be still, being mindful of one’s limitations et. cetera — is prioritized. Hopefully this year’s proposals will continue to push us in the right direction. Given the recent findings about the unhealthy sleep culture at Yale, we’ve got a lot of work to do!” said Amanda Farrell, the new Woodbridge Fellow in Goff-Crews’ office.

Interested students can find more information and the application at the Wellness Project website. The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m.
