OREANDA-NEWS. A newborn girl died after lung failure due to coronavirus infection in the Kiev Children's Infectious Diseases Hospital. This was stated by the head doctor of the institution, Tatyana Kaminskaya, reports «Ukrainskaya Pravda».
According to her, the newborn was infected with the coronavirus in the womb. She was hospitalized on the 15th day of her life with shortness of breath, intoxication and high fever. «The child was admitted with respiratory failure and was hospitalized in the intensive care anesthesiology department», Kaminskaya said.
According to the doctor, the girl was immediately intubated, but this did not prevent the development of severe respiratory distress syndrome, which prevents oxygen from entering the blood due to lung failure. Doctors failed to save the child. Kaminskaya noted that the deceased became the youngest victim of COVID-19 in Ukraine — only 21 days have passed since her birth.
