OREANDA-NEWS A team of architects and inventors from Indonesia invented an original way to stop the global melting of Arctic ice. They created a design project for a submarine that is capable of producing artificial icebergs, the ASA International Design Competition portal reports.

So, the vessel will take sea water from the bottom layers, desalinate, and then freeze it using special turbines. As a result, small ice “briquettes” in the form of hexagons should form. Layering one on top of the other, they can become the basis for new ice sheets.

According to the calculations of the authors, approximately 2027 cubic meters of water will be needed per iceberg. Over time, the submarines will restore the melted ice and restore the polar ecosystem.

According to research, over the past 30 years, the Arctic Ocean has lost almost 95% of perennial ice.

The animals living there, including polar bears, were endangered.

In addition, the authors noted, meltwater globally changes the circulation of ocean currents, and this will affect the climate not only in the vicinity of the North Pole, but also on the entire planet.
