OREANDA-NEWS. A group of researchers from France and Italy found evidence that the results of the 1988 study, which allegedly established the actual date of manufacture of the Shroud of Turin, were erroneous.  This is reported in a press release on Phys.org.

The Shroud of Turin has been studied for many years.  This is a special Christian relic.  It is believed that the body of Jesus Christ was wrapped in it after crucifixion and death on the cross.  In 1988, a group of researchers said that she was able to lift the veil of secrecy of the relics, calling the approximate length of time when this fabric could actually be used.  The researchers dated the fabric from 1260 to 1390 years.

However, now scientists have found these findings incorrect, since at the end of the eighties it was possible to investigate only the edge of the shroud, and not the entire fabric.

The fact is that the edge details of the Shroud could have been forged by nuns in the Middle Ages, who were trying to repair the damage caused by the relics over the years.

Researchers believe that the whole shroud should be subjected to a new analysis.  Only this will allow to establish its exact age.  But for this to happen, the Vatican must again give scientists access to the shroud.
