«Of the 405,739 (genomic) sequences uploaded to the GISAID database with samples obtained within the last 30 days, 291,000 (71.9%) are for «omicron», 113,652 (28%) for «delta», 47 (less than 0.1%) for the «gamma» coronavirus strain, 10 (less than 0.1%) for the «alpha» strain and three sequences represent other circulating variants (including the mu and lambda strains)», the message reports.

It is noted that experts examined samples obtained from December 16, 2021 to January 14, 2022. Earlier, the american geneticist Dmitry Pruss stated that there are at least two varieties of the strain, which is called «omicron». «Mass distribution of BA.2 started only in recent days. After all, most of us expect that the «omicron» wave will end in a weeks. And BA.2, it may lengthen the wave», Pruss warned.
