OREANDA-NEWSWinner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, American Francis Arnold joined the board of directors of the Alphabet holding, of which Google is a part. This was announced on Tuesday by Google CEO and Alphabet Sundar Pichai on his Twitter.

"I am pleased to welcome Francis Arnold to the Alphabet board of directors. Francis has extensive experience in research and work in areas such as chemistry, engineering, renewable energy and others, as well as the Nobel Prize in chemistry. I look forward to working with her!" - noted Pichai.

Arnold has developed a methodology for the directed evolution of enzymes, forcing the cell to produce new, previously non-existent enzymes, on the basis of which it is possible to create new drugs, types of environmentally friendly biofuels. In 2018, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in conjunction with George Smith and Greg Winter.
