OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, the number of cases of pollution of rivers and lakes decreased last year. This was reported by TASS with reference to a study by the international audit and consulting network FinExpertiza, based on data from Roshydromet.

There were 12% fewer cases of high and extremely high pollution of water bodies in 2021 compared to the previous year. In total, 2441 cases of exceeding the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances were identified. This is the minimum figure for the last nine years, the authors of the study stressed.

The most pollution of rivers and lakes (15% of all cases) in 2021 was recorded in the Sverdlovsk region. Every tenth case was detected in the Murmansk region.

Earlier, UN experts named large forest fires and noise pollution as one of the main threats to humanity. These phenomena were considered the most detrimental to the environment and human health.

Rosprirodnadzor previously named the regions with the dirtiest air. The Krasnoyarsk Territory became the leader in the anti-rating. The reason was emissions from factories in Norilsk. Cherepovets in the Volgograd region took the second place among the regions with the dirtiest city. Novokuznetsk in the Kemerovo region took the third place.
