OREANDA-NEWS. Australia has become the most drunk country in the world, according to the Global Drug and Alcohol Survey (GDR2021).

On average, Australians were drunk 26.7 times a year, or about twice a month. Denmark and Finland are also in the top three (23.8 times a year).

The researchers believe Romania (10.6), New Zealand (10.3) and Mexico (8.9) are the least boozy countries. Russia was not mentioned in the study.

The study involved more than 32 thousand respondents from more than 20 countries.

The GDR2021 researchers also found out that on average respondents drink alcohol twice a week. France leads in this indicator for the year - there respondents reported having drunk alcohol 132 times in the past year. In New Zealand the figure was 120 and in the Netherlands 112. The bottom of the ranking went to the US - 83 times a year.

The authors of the study also found out how often people who drink alcohol regret it. The highest figure was in Ireland - 28.4 times a year. In Poland it was 28.3 times and in New Zealand 27.4 times; the three countries were in the top three. The citizens of Austria (17.7), Finland (17) and Denmark (17) regretted drinking the least.

Overall, respondents reported that they most regretted drinking too much alcohol and doing so too quickly. Among the most frequently cited reasons for regret were also "mixing different alcoholic drinks", "being in the company of a lot of drinkers" and "taking other substances".
