OREANDA-NEWS. On July 11, an Arctic special expedition will start from the Atomflot base on the territory of Murmansk-17, during which the Russian traveler Fyodor Konyukhov will smash a single polar research station at the North Pole, the Rossiya 24 TV channel reported.

Nikolai Savelyev, one of the expedition organizers and founder of the Polar Travel Club, specified that the station will be prepared on the mainland and then installed on an ice floe. The icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" will take Konyukhov to the place of the expedition.

Konyukhov will spend two weeks on an ice floe all alone, collecting information about drifting ice and global warming. Then the icebreaker will return to the North Pole area and take the explorer.

“We should pay more attention to the means for cleaning up the Arctic. Not only ours, the entire Arctic, especially now that Russia has become the chairman of the Arctic Council,” explained Fyodor Konyukhov, speaking about the tasks of the expedition.

The traveler Fyodor Konyukhov also intends to conduct a study for the presence of microplastics in the Arctic Ocean during an expedition to the drifting polar station at the North Pole in July 2021.

"I want to measure whether there is microplastic at the North Pole when it is drifting. I think there is. Nobody pollutes at the North Pole, but due to the flow there, of course, there is no escape from microplastic particles, all the same plastic is coming out, "he said at a press conference at TASS on Tuesday.
