OREANDA-NEWS. A high-precision guided missile is being developed for the Russian Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system. In the near future, bench tests of the ammunition homing head should begin.

The challenge for the creators is to design a missile that can destroy small, well-protected targets. It is specified that the ammunition will be guided by thermal imaging and television channels, as well as by a laser beam. The RIA Novosti agency writes about this with reference to its own source in the military-industrial complex.

"Tornado-S" is a further development of the "Smerch" MLRS. An automated fire control system was installed on the combat vehicle, which allows you to control the firing of an entire battalion of launchers and significantly increases the accuracy of shooting and the speed of preparation for a salvo.

One launcher carries twelve 300-mm missiles. The maximum launch range reaches 120 kilometers, and the affected area is 60 hectares.

It is reported that in the near future the stage of bench tests of the seeker for a new rocket will begin. The source added that "the new ammunition must ensure high-precision destruction of priority small-sized and highly protected targets, such as enemy command posts, communication centers and other long-term structures of military-industrial infrastructure."
