OREANDA-NEWS. The population of Russia will soon experience the consequences of global warming. The head of the Climate and Energy Program of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Alexei Kokorin told URA.RU about this.

According to the expert, in the second half of the 21st century, the number of both hot and rainy periods will increase significantly in Russian regions.

The specialist believes that precipitation will begin to fall sharply and unevenly, for example, instead of five rains, there will be two heavy showers, which will create a load on infrastructure and agriculture.

At the same time, he stressed that the countries located next to the world's oceans will be most strongly affected by global climate change.

"If we take the northwest or the Arctic, then blizzards, stormy winds, blizzard, heavy precipitation in the form of snow or rain, and in the south, therefore, droughts and heat waves," he explained.

Earlier, climatologist Ekaterina Pestryakova named the regions of Russia that are at risk of flooding due to global warming. According to the specialist, these are St. Petersburg, Western Siberia, the Kurgan region and the east of the Chelyabinsk region.

According to Roshydromet, the climate in Russia is warming twice as fast as in other countries. This entails an increase in the number of dangerous phenomena, more frequent droughts, thawing of permafrost and heat.
