OREANDA-NEWS. Scientists have found that since the spring of 2020, the level of artificial vibrations on the Earth has dropped by about 50 %. This was reported by the American magazine Science.

The publication says that numerous seismic stations have recorded a decrease in noise caused by human activity. Such changes were registered not only on the surface, but also deep underground. The reason is the coronavirus pandemic and various restrictions connected to it.

This conclusion was made according to data from 268 seismic stations located in 117 countries. The research was carried out by 76 specialists from 66 organizations located on the territory of 27 states.

Low seismic noise levels were initially registered in China, where the first outbreak of the disease was recorded. Ground vibrations diminished after the cancellation of flights and travel due to the self-isolation regime. The largest changes were recorded in regions with a high population density, including New York and Singapore.

Reducing the noise emitted by people and industrial enterprises allows to better monitor threats of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides.
