OREANDA-NEWS. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) refused to accept for publication an article by Russian scientists from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RUS) due to international sanctions.

This was reported by TASS news agency with reference to the letter of the Institute to the President of the Academy, Alexander Sergeev. The American Geophysical Union declined to accept the article which covers the connection between El Nino Southern Oscillation and atmospheric electricity, prepared for publication in Geophysical Research Letters.

“AGU motivated its refusal by the impossibility of considering scientific works financed by the government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the government of the Russian Federation,” Sergeev explained. He told TASS that he is “very surprised by this situation and intends to investigate it in detail.” “At the RAS we will sort it out and will definitely turn to the US National Academy of Sciences… with a request to comment on this situation,” he said.
