OREANDA-NEWS According to the head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Health, when organizing the vaccination campaign, priority was not given to persons over the age of 60 and patients with serious illnesses.

"According to experts, this led to the death of about 10 thousand patients during the second wave of the pandemic, these lives could have been saved, because about 80% of the dead were elderly citizens", - he said.

In addition, Katsarov added that when ordering vaccines against COVID-19, a serious mistake was also made, since Bulgaria decided to order more vaccines from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, as opposed to three other drugs approved in the European Union (American companies Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen).

According to the Minister of Health of Bulgaria, due to delays in the supply of this vaccine until the end of February, only 200 thousand people were vaccinated in the country.
