OREANDA-NEWS "Potentially dangerous" asteroid will approach the Earth in the nearest future. The celestial body was named 441987 (2010 NY65), an asteroid twice the size of the Statue of Liberty (187 meters).

The space object is sweeping at a speed of 13.4 kilometers per second, or more than 48,000 kilometers per hour. The closest approach will occur on June 25th. At this moment, the asteroid will be from our planet at a distance which far outweighs the distance from the Earth to the Moon.

Although the "hazardous" status does not guarantee percussions, there are factors that can affect the path of the asteroid. Sometimes the orbital trajectories of asteroids are affected by the gravitational attraction of the planets, which leads to a change in their trajectories.
