OREANDA-NEWS. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken believes, it is necessary to continue investigating the causes of the COVID-19 pandemic. «I am not satisfied with the results of the investigation. And, yes, I think it is necessary to conduct a new investigation», the head of the State Department said at a press conference in Washington.

«It is important to understand where and how the new type of coronavirus began to spread, so that the world community understands how to act in similar situations», said Blinken.

The investigation, conducted earlier by experts of the World Health Organization (WHO) together with colleagues from China, ended, in fact, almost without result: scientists could not get a clear answer to the question of where and why the spread of SARS-CoV-2 began. Critics of the WHO report believe, that experts during the trip to China failed to conduct a fully independent investigation.

Leading scientists-molecular biologists and immunologists have called on the UN and China to re-investigate the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. In an open letter published in the journal «Science», they stressed the need to pay equal attention to hypotheses about it's natural and laboratory origin during the investigation.

According to scientists, the investigation conducted in China by WHO specialists did not receive unambiguous evidence of the laboratory or natural origin of the new virus. Moreover, the first hypothesis was not given enough attention, said the signatories of the letter.
