OREANDA-NEWS. Immunologist, Ph.D. Nikolay Kryuchkov told Moscow 24 that it is too early to consider specific types of rash as a common symptom of the Omicron strain of the coronavirus.

Earlier, the British media reported that a skin rash may appear on the body when infected with a new strain. Redness differs from patient to patient. Some talk about severe itching, others that the swelling does not bother them in any way. The authors of the work believe that such a symptom may appear at the initial stage of infection.

According to Kryuchkov, there was talk of a skin rash as a sign of coronavirus infection before. However, in the sick, it manifested itself extremely rarely, the expert noted.

"Now, to a large extent, younger people and those who have immunity to infection begin to get sick. This leads to the fact that the disease progresses more easily. As a result, the symptoms change. Everyone began to pay attention to skin rashes, loss of appetite. symptoms such as temperature 39, aches, severe weakness, such signs are considered concomitant, "- explained the immunologist.

"A skin rash is not the most common symptom. It is not that even at least half of the patients have it. It is not the same. From the information available, the rash remains a rare symptom," the doctor said.

Kryuchkov recalled that a skin rash can also appear with other viral infections. Combined with the fact that most people get the coronavirus without redness on the body, at the moment this symptom cannot be called characteristic of COVID-19, said the interlocutor of Moscow 24. At the same time, he admitted that in the future, with proper evidence, one of the types of rash could become a sign of infection.

"The rash is different. It differs in localization, manifestations, time of occurrence, rate of spread. Therefore, any rash that has arisen on the body cannot be a suspicion of coronavirus," says Kryuchkov.
