OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2011. The International Exhibition and Conference on the Achievements of the Healthcare Sector of Turkmenistan organized jointly by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry closed in Ashgabat.

Showcasing the progress in implementing the Health State Programme developed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov within the framework of the sections of the versatile business programme, the medical forum demonstrated the indisputable achievements at the contemporary stage of modernization of the national healthcare system.


Over 280 companies from 40 countries of the world participated in the forum this year. They presented a wide range of pharmaceutical products, advanced medical equipment and instruments, a wide spectrum of medical services and innovations applied in various spheres of medicine.

The rapidly developing healthcare system in Turkmenistan provides vast opportunities for international cooperation as is illustrated by a great number of foreign companies participating in the exhibition including the leaders on the world medical market. The tremendous potential of the Turkmen medical industry is illustrated by an increasing number of foreign companies, which intend to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan. This was vividly evidenced by an increased number of the expositions representing the new companies seeking to operate on the promising Turkmen market. Their products and services were presented at the Ashgabat exhibition along with such world-known brands as Siemens, Hospitalia International, Bionorica (Germany), Rotapharm (UK), Roche (Switzerland), Brupharmexport (Belgium), Mediprogress (Slovakia), Ajanta Pharma, Biomedicare (India), Egis and Unicorp Biotech (Hungary), etc.

The Turkmen private companies specializing in the medical industry including Sag-Aman, Dermanhyzmat, Sagdyn, Dertdesh, Boy Bodron, Dag oty, Arman Yardam and many others were represented in a worthy manner among the large companies and medical institutions. Actively contributing to implementing the state health programmes, they distribute a wide range of medicinal preparations and medical products of world-known foreign companies, render consultative, diagnostic services and offer warranty services of medical equipment in the territory of Turkmenistan.

The scientific conference that provided an effective platform for exchanging views and talks between professionals, scientists and experts in medical science from many countries of the world, took place in the framework of the forum agenda. Modern trends in the health sector and the experience of Turkmen and foreign medical specialists in addressing various health issues were discussed during eleven conference sections. Specialists considered the issues related to further development of medical science in such fields as internal diseases, surgery, oncology, cardiology and cardiosurgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, infectious diseases, sanitation, epidemiology, etc.

This year the scientific conference has brought together a great number of participants, who presented the reports on a wide spectrum of themes that contributed to concerting efforts representatives of government bodies, heads of medical institutions, Turkmen and foreign scientists in order to address topical issues related to further improvement of the Turkmen healthcare system.

The forum participants noted that fundamental modernization of the national healthcare sector during the years of independence had offered a powerful impetus to develop Turkmen medicine that had significantly broadened a range of services rendered to the population that contributed to reducing sickness rate and increasing life expectancy in the country. Bright evidence for the success of the Turkmen leader’s policy aimed at promoting medicine is the level of scientific research in Turkmenistan significantly increased in recent years.

A number of modern health facilities equipped with scientific and technological advances have been built in the country. These include specialized centres and clinics, multifield hospitals and maternal and child care centres. The International Eye Disease Centre and the International Traumatology Centre have been opened, and the ceremonies of laying the foundation stone of the Dentistry Centre and the plant producing infusion solutions have taken place in Ashgabat in the framework of the celebrations to mark to the Day of Health and Medical Industry Workers this week. The Turkmen leader takes significant measures to develop rural medicine as is vividly illustrated by the architectural premieres, including the opening of a diagnostic consulting centre affiliated with the Central Hospital in Serdarabat and a health centre in Ak Altyn settlement, Dovletli Etrap, Lebap Velayat that have taken place this week.

The representatives of the world medical, scientific and business communities visited our country to participate in the festivities to mark to the 16th anniversary of the adoption of the Health State Programme and the Day of Health and Medical Industry Workers. Among the guests of honours were Thomas Ilka, Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry of Health of the Federal Republic of Germany, John Netting, Director General of Europe Business Assembly (EBA), Zsuzsanna Jakab, Director of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Regional Office for Europe, a well-known heart surgeon from Germany Hans Meisner and many others.

The prominent foreign guests put emphasis on the significant progress made by Turkmenistan in the healthcare sector in recent years. They were amazed at well thought-out healthcare infrastructure of Turkmenistan amazes: citizens of Turkmenistan have access to a wide spectrum of modern medical services rendered by modern clinics and diagnostic centres throughout the country and the activities to promote a healthy lifestyle, sport and physical culture are conducted in the country. Foreign specialists emphasized that the health programmes were promoted in our country at the highest level through the profound contribution of the leader of the Turkmen state to developing the healthcare sector.

The international exhibition and scientific conference closed, however cooperation and exchange of experience between medical specialists would continue. The forum facilitated searching for new partners, news ways of progressive development and paved the way for further cooperation and implementation of new joint projects. The characteristic feature of the medical forum, which became an important event in the history of the national healthcare system, is not only interesting discussions and meetings but also further specific and practical steps that are to significantly promote the medical industry and improve the quality of medical services provided to population.

Developing the national ways of development, countries all over the world seek to adopt widely best practices of other countries and adapt them to the national economic and social conditions. This process affects the medical sphere as well, and the level of development of the healthcare system and availability of medical services depend on the effectiveness of this process. The medical forum in Ashgabat is another evidence for worldwide recognition of the effectiveness of the national model of the healthcare system being formed in Turkmenistan under leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
