OREANDA-NEWS. November 14, 2011. Vladimir Putin: First, I would like to cordially congratulate the groups on stage now. I am sure that we all – both the audience here and those watching at home – have enjoyed it immensely. Thank you very much. It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a good laugh.

My special thanks to those groups that have contributed to the anti-alcohol campaign. The Russian government provides funding for this purpose, while KVN groups do it for free, in such a natural and excellent manner. I am certain it will be recognised and appreciated by many. Thank you very much.

I want to congratulate all past and present members of KVN. In the past 50 years, we have seen different eras and so has the club. With representatives of all of Russia’s ethnic groups, whom we have seen on stage and on television, KVN has become a truly international show and competition. Our television channels broadcast many interesting programmes, but many of them are just franchises, with our channels borrowing well-established shows. KVN, on the other hand, is a truly Russian brand.

I find it surprising that the KVN club still exists at all. It has been mentioned here that there are numerous problems. Let me tell you a little secret. A while ago, Mr Maslyakov [Alexander Maslyakov, TV host and KVN club founder] and I attended an event. He said: “We should meet.” And I said: “Well, if there is a need then come.” And he did come. I don’t know whether what I’m going to say now will be more funny or sad. So he came, we greeted each other, he began to speak and kept speaking for about 15 minutes. I asked: “Mr Maslyakov, what is it you want to ask me?” This is the truth. I’m not kidding. He answered: “Well, I don’t know…” And I said: “So why have you come?”

Alexander Maslyakov: Well, I was not being completely honest with you, of course…

Vladimir Putin: I am not exaggerating. So I asked: “But why have you come?” He said: “Well, I just came without any particular purpose, I don’t know what to ask you.” And I said: “Well, you know, then I will think about it myself.” So I have been thinking about it since then. I guess we should meet again.

Alexander Maslyakov: I wouldn’t mind. I will take Mr Gusman (Yuly Gusman, film director and KVN permanent jury member) with me, he has certain suggestions.

Vladimir Putin: Mr Maslyakov, come alone. My congratulations on the club’s anniversary. I wish you all the best!
