OREANDA-NEWS. April 02, 2012. President of Turkmenistan receives Commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) James N. Mattis.

According to James N. Mattis, the United States of America consider Turkmenistan as a responsible and reliable partner and highly appreciate its contribution into the efforts taken to the world community on developing the optimal solutions of urgent problems facing humanity.

Greeting the high-ranking guest, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated with satisfaction the progressive character of the traditionally friendly Turkmen-American dialogue underlining that cooperation with the US was a priority vector of the foreign-policy strategy of the Turkmen state.

During the meeting the President of Turkmenistan and his guest exchanged their views on the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the context of the urgent tasks to ensure the universal security and stability, to counteract the global threats and challenges of the modern time, including illicit drug trafficking, international terrorism, transboundary organized crime. As is known, this theme was the focus of the Turkmen-American political consultations in US where the Turkmen delegation had participated in within the framework of the working trip taken on the Turkmen leader’s instructions. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) underlined the significance of the creative peacemaking initiatives, including peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, social and economic revival of the neighboring country put forward by Turkmenistan with the aim to promote wellbeing and stability in the region.

U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Robert E. Patterson attended the meeting.
