OREANDA-NEWS. The Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission said on Thursday it has approved a document on coping with climate change during the 2013-2020 period.

According to the paper, the province aims to fulfill the national greenhouse gas emission targets, raise its adaption to climate change and make progress in low-carbon pilot programs by 2020.

To be specific, non-fossil fuels will account for more than 10 percent of the energy portfolio and forest coverage ratio will reach 35 percent. Major sectors including industry, transport and public agencies will make remarkable achievements in energy conservation and emission reduction. Meanwhile, the province will strive to bid for the national pilot program for low-carbonic provinces, provincial-level districts as well as cities.

Major tasks are also set in the document, including readjusting the industrial set-up, developing low-carbonic industries and circular economy, improving energy structures, and beefing up efforts to economize energy and cut emission in energy-intensive sectors.

Guided by the document, the province will launch a batch of projects to cope with climate change, said an official from the commission.
