OREANDA-NEWS. We shall recall that, the enterprise obtained the right to use the Dobrovolnoye subsoil plot of federal significance for uranium exploration and extraction here in accordance with the order of the Government of Russia. Environmental monitoring is a necessary component of engineering and environmental surveys carried out prior to executing design documentation, incl. within the environmental impact assessment (EIA).

Nikolay Poponin, Director General of JSC Dalur, commented as follows: "The impact on the environment during the deposit development, of course, makes the locals worry. In order to address many questions and concerns, we conduct all the events openly and engage the public".

A detailed monitoring plan was allocated in the administration of the Zverinogolovsky District in advance, so that every resident could take a look at it. Proposals for the selection of sampling points were collected as well. The monitoring itself started with a meeting in the office of the district head, which was also attended by the representatives of the public. All proposals submitted by the locals were taken into account.

Ordered by JSC Dalur, the monitoring is carried out by FSUE Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management "RosRAO". In the presence of local residents, water and silt samples were taken in the Tobol River and in the reservoirs located close to the Dobrovolnoye deposit. Soil and vegetation samples were also selected in the territory of the villages Lebedevka, Trud i Znanie, Sosnovaya Roshcha (Pine Grove) health resort, as well as on the Dobrovolnoye Deposit site. The sampling results will be known in 45 days, after studying in the RosRAO specialized laboratory of the Ural Territorial District. They will also be presented to the district residents.

The gamma background, the indicators of which were in full compliance with the norm, was constantly measured during the monitoring.

On the eve of the event, JSC Dalur became a Laureate of a large-scale international project of the Vernadsky Foundation "Ecological Culture. Peace and Harmony" in the nomination "Environmental Culture in Industry and Energy" for the Company’s environmental activities. Aleksandr Burutin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dalur, was presented the award at the solemn event dedicated to the Ecologist Day and World Environment Day. The ceremony was held on June 5 in the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation. The event was organized by the Vernadsky Non-Governmental Environmental Foundation supported by the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Russian Geographical Society and a number of public environmental organizations.

We shall note that the activities of JSC Dalur are carried out in strict accordance with the requirements of the current legislation of the Russian Federation in the course of preparation for the deposit development, construction and operation of facilities. The enterprise expects to complete the design documentation development, including the EIA, by the end of 2017. After that, a Public Discussion of the project, including the EIA, will be held with the residents of Zverinogolovsky District in accordance with the legal requirements. If the Public Discussion terminates positively, the project will be forwarded to FAA Glavgosexpertiza (GGE) for conducting state expert review (including state ecological expert review). Only if this entire sequence is followed and the positive conclusion of GGE is received, JSC Dalur will start geological exploration followed by pilot operation.
