OREANDA-NEWS. September 21, 2016. Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States is the only Private plan available through employer-sponsored health coverage in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia — and one of only 13 Private health plans available nationwide — to earn a five out of five rating from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2016-2017.

In addition, Kaiser Permanente has the highest rated Medicare plan in the region.

The ratings were published today by NCQA in the Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2016-17 report. NCQA is recognized as the national leader in health care performance measurement and rates more than 1,000 health plans nationally each year, including Medicare, Medicaid and Private (commercial).

These ratings place Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States among the top three percent of Private health plans nationwide and the top 10 percent of Medicare plans nationwide.

“This is the fifth consecutive year that Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States rated as one of the top Private health plans in the nation,” said Bernadette Loftus, MD, associate executive director, The Permanente Medical Group. “Our consistently high ratings reflect how Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to quality and service translates into our members living healthier, fuller lives.”

“The information provided by NCQA empowers consumers to compare health plans using independent information and allows us all to make the best health care decisions for ourselves and our families,” said Kim Horn, president of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. “This rating reflects the success of Kaiser Permanente’s integrated care model and shows that we are setting the pace for the highest quality health care in our region.”

The NCQA Health Insurance Plan Ratings are based on combined scores for health plans in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set®, commonly called HEDIS; the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems®, or CAHPS; and NCQA Accreditation standards.

NCQA’s website (www.ncqa.org) contains information to help consumers, employers and others make more informed health care choices. The measurement tools used by NCQA are among the most comprehensive, comparable across plans and widely respected in the nation, and cover a wide range of clinical and service measures, including women’s reproductive health, immunizations and cancer screenings, as well as clinical treatment measures for the management of chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes and heart disease.
