OREANDA-NEWS. Centra, one of the largest employers in central Virginia, has selected Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, to implement a health information technology (IT) system across its five hospitals, more than 50 ambulatory and long-term care facilities, and health plan. The Cerner Millennium® electronic health record will support Centra’s clinical and revenue cycle processes and facilitate proactive patient health management.

“We selected Cerner because it was the best option to provide our clinicians with a more comprehensive view of a patient’s health history, which will help us deliver the most high-quality, cost-effective care possible,” said E.W. Tibbs Jr., president and CEO, Centra. “We found that only Cerner’s breadth of integrated solutions and services, and its proven history of predictable implementation and optimization experiences, including total cost of ownership, would align with our efforts to effectively change how we impact care.”

To support the extension of care beyond the traditional provider setting, Centra will also implement HealtheIntentSM, Cerner’s near real-time population health management platform that aggregates data from multiple sources into a single patient record. With HealtheIntent, Centra will gain insights and discoveries to identify improvement opportunities and match the right care programs to the right individuals across its patient and community populations.

Cerner will also support Centra’s growing health plan, which covers more than 45,000 individuals. The plan is uniquely structured to provide value-added services to employers across the Lynchburg community, as well as expand growth in the Medicare Advantage sector. HealtheIntent is designed to help Centra better facilitate care coordination, produce advanced analytics and enable the predictive identification of risks across health plan participants and Centra’s clinically integrated network.

“As one of the leading care providers in our area of the country, it is essential that Centra continues to influence the health of not only our patients, but also our community as a whole,” said Tibbs. “We believe Cerner’s population health management and interoperability solutions are the most advanced solutions available and capable of meeting these needs.”

“Cerner and Centra share a commitment to the delivery of innovative health care for those in need,” said Zane Burke, president, Cerner. “We are committed to Centra’s success and look forward to supporting the health system as it works to improve the health of its community and provide alternative care models.”
