OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2016. Sharonville Transmission Plant recently recognized the team of Colin Deming, Joe Mills, Joe Voss and Mike Sitterlet for their work on a new application to improve quality and throughput on the plant’s 6R80 ring gear line, which eventually find their way into F-150 and Mustang transmissions.

The team developed and implemented a new inspection station that utilizes a laser to measure and inspect parts for potential issues. By using an accurate laser and robust design, the productivity, quality and cost for this part have improved significantly. Upfront planning helped the team manage the integration of the new system in a very short timeframe.

“This project shows that innovation can occur at every level in the manufacturing system,” said Area Manager John Orlando.  “The launch was successful due to the team's upfront planning and dedication to manage the integration of the new system in such a short timeframe.”

Advancements in laser technology enabled the accuracy and reliability needed for this project.

The new station also delivers increased productivity that Sharonville Transmission Plant needs to meet rising 6R80 volumes.
