OREANDA-NEWS. SSE Business Energy has launched a new energy tariff for businesses. The new tariff, called ‘SSE Green’ is a 100% renewable energy contract, and is aimed at industrial and commercial businesses.

It is mandatory for FTSE 100 companies to report their Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) in their annual reports. Carbon management has therefore become an increasing focus for businesses as part of their wider environmental strategy, and organisations are increasingly demanding information about the sources of their energy.

The SSE Green tariff can support businesses to manage their environmental credentials. SSE will supply renewable energy matched to Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origins (REGOs), certifying the purchased electricity has been generated exclusively through a portfolio of wind and hydro assets.

Since April 2007 SSE has invested over ?4bn in renewable sources of generation with over 2,500MW of wind (onshore and offshore) and hydro assets in operation with a further 400MW of onshore wind currently in construction. SSE Green will also be supported by REGO’s from other wind and hydro generators.

Terry Tippell, SSE’s Director of Business Energy said: “We are delighted to offer this new contract to business customers. It will allow them to demonstrate their commitment to renewable and sustainable goals, as well as enhancing their environmental reputation and commitment to customers and other stakeholders. Equally, large organisations can benefit greatly by being able to report zero emissions for their purchased electricity.”
