OREANDA-NEWS. The conveyor of Volkswagen Group Rus in Kaluga produced the 50,000th engine 1.6 MPI of EA 211 series since the start of production in September of the last year. The company cooperates actively with the major Russian suppliers, which permits to increase the level of localization of engines.

"Engine plant Volkswagen Group Rus for more than six months supplies the automotive companies in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod with power units of local production. 50 thousand engines - are the first production record, which is indicating the successful implementation of the long-term strategy in the Russian market ", - said General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus, Marcus Ozegovich.

Recall that launch of engine plant, on which it was assembled the 50,000th power unit, was held on September 4th, 2015. The total investment in the construction of the plant was EUR 250 million. The plant for the production of engines has the area of 32 thousand square meters. It is located in Kaluga, close to the Volkswagen automobile company. The maximum plant production capacity is 150 thousand engines per year.

The produced locally petrol engine 1.6 MPI of EA211 series is installed at five models of concern: on the models Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid, which are assembled at the plant in Kaluga, and on the models of Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia and Skoda Yeti, which are produced in Nizhny Novgorod. The new engine is available with two power versions (90 hp and 110 hp). Power trains of Kaluga production comply with all international quality standards of concern Volkswagen AG - the company carried out a full product quality control, carried out numerous trials and tests. The total investment of Volkswagen AG Concern in equipment for quality control of products was Euro 8.6 million.

Volkswagen Group Rus Company makes contribution to the development of local suppliers base, thereby it stimulates the development of the automotive industry. Billets cylinder block and cylinder head come to Kaluga from Ulyanovsk plant of company Nemak, which produces engine parts from the Russian aluminum. Wiring harness for the engine is supplied by Fujikura Automotive from its production in Cheboksary.
