UKRPLASTIC has been commended for its active position in environmental issues and its integration of environmental strategy in Ukraine at the award ceremony of the International Environmental Forum “Environment for Ukraine” The organizers noted the company’s system of cooperation with public authorities and civil society organizations, academia, and business partners in addressing environmental issues, environmental security, protecting human life and the health of the region's population, all in the framework of the implementation of the Aarhus Convention. Environmental friendliness has been inherent in UKRPLASTIC’s way of doing business for more than 20 years. The achievement of the goals of the company are traditionally connected to environmental protection. Its production uses only certified materials and raw ingredients.

For more than 20 years the company has been implementing the concept of sustainable development which combines social responsibility and environmentally friendly business. UKRPLASTIC regularly confirms the compliance of its production and product to the requirements of international standards and ISO 14001: 2004 (for environment), ISO 22000: 2005 (safety) и ISO 9001: 2008 (quality), BRC / IOP «Grade А», FDA. UKRPLASTIC’s production uses only certified materials and raw components. According to the UBP criteria, which is used in the EU, UKRPLASTIC produces “green”, environmentally friendly packaging. However the company is not satisfied with what has been achieved and is improving its production process and introducing resource saving technology. Innovative solutions are used to minimize human impacts on the environment and to save natural resources. The company has introduced a modern capture system which uses solvents in a closed cycle, fully recycles waste, and commissioned equipment for the production of packaging materials that has a high level of environmental safety. The company is a member of the international Responsible Care Initiative, which is coordinated by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). UKRPLASTIC has recently led an international environmental initiative of the UN in Ukraine called Save Food, which is aimed at the preservation of food and reducing food waste. After all, experts have concluded that the transition to flexible packaging helps reduce food waste by three times and minimizes unnecessary energy loss. Carefully selected packaging structure ensures maximum product protection as well as the safety of users. Such packaging is environmentally friendly throughout all stages of the life cycle of the product. Upon contact with the packaged product it is physiologically neutral. It keeps the taste of the product, and does not contain chlorine compounds. When it is disposed it does not release dioxin. After its use it is completely recyclable. At the same time, it fully protects the product from moisture, foreign odors, neutralizes the effect of light and oxygen, and prevents the loss of flavors.

According to Irina Mirochnik, the President of PC UKRPLASTIC, a closed loop economy is a strict requirement of European legislations and an integral part of business development. “By 2010 the European economy shall function on the principle of complete recycling and closed-loop. The Europeans have already realized that a clean environment is much more valuable than the most profitable, but harmful productions. We promote ecological principles of conducting business in Ukraine because some domestic manufacturers still do not understand that their business has no future without investing in environmental safety”, noted Mirochnik.
