OREANDA-NEWS. On May 13-16, 2007 a delegation of Rosenergoatom took part in the annual conference of the NPP directors of the Moscow Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the NPPs of Germany as well as in a meeting of the WANO MC Board, reported the press-centre of  Rosenergoatom. The Russian delegation comprised the deputy directors general of Rosenergoatom-the director of Beloyarsk NPP Nikolay Oshkanov, the director of Kalinin NPP Leonid Martynovsky, the director of Kursk NPP Yuri Slepokon, the director of Novovoronezh NPP Vyacheslav Vikin, the director of Kola NPP Yuri Kolomtsev as well as the head of the International Activities Department Anatoly Krichenklo and the technical director for new NPPs Vasily Aksyonov.


The conference was held at Krummel NPP (Germany). NPP directors from 12 countries took part in the meeting: Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, China, Iran, Germany and Switzerland. The sides exchanged information about the state of nuclear power engineering worldwide and about the prospects of its development. Our foreign partners noted that under present conditions Russia’s nuclear energy development program looks ambitious. Still they gave a positive assessment of the program. The directors of the German NPPs told about nuclear power engineering in Germany and pointed out the necessity of optimizing the work of NPPs and enhancing their efficiency.


One more topic was the use of safety indicator at NPPs. The meeting of the WANO MC Board focused on the preparations for this year’s WANO General Assembly in Chicago and will consider nominations for the WANO NPP safety award. Rosatom and Rosenergoatom representatives will take part in the meeting. The World Association of Nuclear Operators was founded on May 15 1989. The Moscow Center of WANO comprises 31 NPPs in Russia, China, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Finland, Armenia, Ukraine and Germany.
